Melvin Jakaran of La Union won by walkover after opponent Roland Plaza suffered a head wound when a mango tree branch that broke due to inclement weather hit his head while resting just outside the venue.
Elite men’s bantamweight bet Melvin Jakaran scored an instant win even without climbing inside the ring after finals opponent Roland Plaza suffered an injury in a freak accident before their scheduled 2015 Philippine National Games boxing bout inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Coliseum Monday.
Jakaran of La Union won by walkover after Plaza suffered a head wound when a mango tree branch that broke due to inclement weather hit his head while resting just outside the venue.
Plaza suffered lacerations on his head and was rushed to the hospital to stitch the wound and is set to undergo a CT scan.
In the youth finals, Adrian Lerasan of Mandaluyong defeated Ariel Enriquez via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) in the juniors boy’s lightweight; Marivin Caribay won against Chris John Esmenda (29-28, 27-30, 29-28) in the jr. boy’s bantamweight while Marlon Arteta of Quezon downs Romel Marcaida of Tayabas (30-26,30-26, 29-27) in jr. boy’s featherweight.
Sherwin Andes took the youth boys light fly gold in a 29-28, 27-30, 29-28 victory over Christopher Patino; Reynan Lojera is the youth boys flyweight champion in a unanimous decision win against Archie Esteleydes while Lawrence Ordonio outclassed Christ John Tizon in the youth boys lightweight (30-26, 30-26, 30-24).
Fernel Gaspi outpointed Billy Joe Torres (elite men’s light fly); Anecit Padillo Jr. scored a technical knockout win over Jerusalem Galvez (elite men’s fly); Mark David Lontayo dominated Reymark Sanchez (elite men’s light welter weight) while Renner Metra won by TKO over Jose Perez (elite men’s welterweight).
