Once again, Pinoy Pride will be showcasing the best of the best in Philippine boxing.

Now on its 31st edition, the event will be headlined by WBO light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, who will be defending his title against another former world champion, Mexico’s Francisco “Chihuas” Rodriguez.

The 33-year old Nietes has a lot at stake for this fight. Not only will he fighting to keep the belt on his waist, he will also be trying to defend the record he has set as the longest reigning Filipino world champion.

On January 2015, he officially surpassed the record held by the late great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde by being champion for more than seven years.

He will be up for a tough task against Rodriguez, who promises to avenge his poor performance the last time he fought in Cebu City at Pinoy Pride 28, also in November 2014. Fighting Jomar Fajardo to a draw, “Chihuas” is determined to erase the memory of the bout he considers as a “punishment from God.”

Co-headlining the event is another title fight featuring ALA Promotions’ fast rising star Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo, who battles Rafael “Guerrerito” Reyes for the IBF Youth featherweight title. Should he end up victorious, Magsayo is promised bigger things in his immediate future, such as a possible fight in October in the United States.

Standing in his way, however, is another young gun in Rafael Reyes. The 19-year old fighter form Chihuahua, Mexico is more than confident coming into the fight, and promised to “show what Mexicans are made of.”

The night also features two special attractions. Kevin “KJ” Cataraja will be making his professional debut against Indonesia’s Ardi “Predator” Tefa. There will also be a cruiserweight bout between two Mexican sluggers Jorge Kahwagi and Ramon Alejandro Olivas.
