Since his October 2014 loss to Nicholas Walters, Nonito Donaire has been back on the fast track to glory.
After dismantling Brazil’s William Prado in March in his fight in the Philippines since 2009, “The Filipino Flash” (34-3, with 22 wins by KO) will now be facing Frenchman Anthony Settoul (20-3, with eight wins by KO) at the Cotai Arena in Macau, China on Saturday night.
A victory for Settoul over a fighter of Donaire’s caliber will most certainly catapult him to further recognition. And coming into the fight, the 28-year old super bantamweight believes his time to begin conquering the boxing world has arrived
“I think the key here will be the footwork,” Settoul told ABS-CBN News correspondent Dyan Castillejo. “I believe it’s my time.”
A win for Donaire, on the other hand, positions him to another run for a world title. He is currently a five-division world champion, and despite his previous setback, he remains confident that he can still achieve further greatness.
And for this particular fight against Settoul, he has been fully satisfied, as far as his preparation goes.
“Ngayon pag nag mitts ako na feel ko iyong tunnerl vision so maganda. I haven’t felt like that in a long time.”
On Friday, both men tipped the scales at 123-pounds.
