Over the past week, news about Floyd Mayweather’s next and supposedly final fight have floated around.
The opponent: the current WBA interim welterweight champion Andre “The Beast” Berto.
Of course, it has been met mainly met with disappointment and utter dissent from boxing fans. Rightfully, after facing the biggest draw in the form of Manny Pacquiao, boxing fans are quite hopeful that Mayweather would end his career with a bang.
Which was why names like Gennady Golovkin and even Oscar De La Hoya (who teased a possible comeback) were thrown in the shortlist for “Money May’s” next opponent.
On Monday (Tuesday, PHT), TMZ Sports reported that the Mayweather vs. Berto showdown has been made final.
“The two have been in talks for weeks ... but now we're told from both camps that it's a done deal and the two will fight in Vegas on September 12th,” an excerpt of the report reads.
Mayweather himself confirmed a date, although did not specifically mention Andre Berto’s name.
September 12, 2015 is the date. Behind the scenes of training camp are available live inside Shots http://t.co/OGrjlNzNeF— Floyd Mayweather (@FloydMayweather) July 21, 2015
