Fight Archives: Julio Cesar Chavez KOs Roger Mayweather
It took one left hand from Julio Cesar Chavez to stop Roger Mayweather.

July 7th, 1985.

The Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas was the venue for one of the more memorable fights in boxing’s super featherweight division. Julio Cesar Chavez, the man touted as the greatest Mexican boxer of all-time fought Roger Mayweather the man who now trains the sport’s pound-for-pound king, Floyd Jr.

While Roger’s career was not as successful as his nephew’s, he did face a number of world champions back in the 80’s and 90’s. His most notable fight was against Chavez, where both men ended up fighting in a rematch four years later.

Their first fight, however, was a more decisive one in favor of Chavez. While Mayweather was ahead in the scorecards in the first round, Chavez found his groove in the second and managed to knock Roger down twice, before winning via TKO.

Chavez then went on to keep his WBC super featherweight world title and an undefeated record of 47-0 at the time.
