Last week, Top Rank chief Bob Arum named Manny Pacquiao’s next possible opponent.
The 83-year old promoter is looking at “Pacman’s” former stable mate Amir Khan in a showdown that could take place in Dubai in 2016.
But Pacquiao’s own trainer Freddie Roach has other things in mind. In an interview with Boxing News Online, the famed trainer wants reigning lineal light welterweight champion Danny “Swift” Garcia to face the eight-division world champion next.
“I want Danny Garcia, that’s my choice. That’s the easiest fight in the f****** world, you can tell his dad [Angel Garcia] that as well.”
The elder Garcia has been known to talk a ton of trash towards his son’s opponents as a method to psyche them out. But for Roach, none of those tactics will work on the much more experienced Pacquiao.
“His dad psyched Amir Khan out but he won’t psych Pacquiao out I promise. Pacquiao will knock Garcia out. I like the dad but he talks too much s***.”
Pacquiao has been deemed unable to compete until the coming year due to a torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder he purportedly sustained during his May 2nd fight against Floyd Mayweather.
