The last time Freddie Roach’s pre-fight predictions came true was during the 2009 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton.
These days, most of them don’t even come close, and the famed trainer has, in turn, been harshly criticized for it.
For the past months, Roach has been making his bold forecasts, this time for the upcoming middleweight super fight between his fighter Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. In a June interview, Roach confidenty declared that the fight will end in no less than a stoppage, going towards their favor, of course.
“I think it's a very good fight for us. I really like our chances in that fight and I think there's a good chance we knock this guy out.”
Recently, he went on to reiterate this said prediction, with more confidence this time.
"Miguel Cotto will win by knockout in the later rounds,” said Roach in a report by Boxingscene.com. “I’m positive that Cotto will win and you can bet everything you want on it. I have the perfect strategy and game plan for our training camp [to ensure] Cotto comes out winner.”
Cotto will be defending his middleweight titles against Alvarez on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
