WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes was the latest additition to ALA Promotions’ first-ever event in the United States.
“Ahas” will be headlining the card entitled “Philippines vs. the World”, which is set to take place on October 17th at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN Sports, Nietes, like his stablemates Albert and Jason Pagara, and Mark Magsayo, is simply thankful for the opportunity given to him by his promoters.
“Masayang masaya kasi makakasama ko yung mga magagaling na fighter sa ALA. So talagang excited kami makalaban ngayon sa US.”
Nietes will be putting his title on the line for the eighth consecutive time against Mexico’s Juan “Pinky” Alejo. It will also be his first time fighting in the US, which of course, opens him up to a more global audience. This fact alone makes him more appreciative of the would-be opportunities that would open up after the fight.
“Malaking exposure ito para sa amin, so malaki ang maitutulong nito para sa aking (career),” Nietes said, who also revealed his intent to move up in weight after taking on Alejo.
Nietes will leave for the United States in the second week of September. While in California, he will be working with strength and conditioning coach Nick Curson, and will be holding his training sessions at the Wild Card Gym in West Hollywood.
