Through 2004-2012, the entire world was treated with four memorable and grueling battles between Manny Paquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
While the first one ended in a draw, Pacquiao officially holds an edge over Marquez, winning the two succeeding contests. But it was Marquez who was able put the exclamation point on their rivalry when he knocked Pacquiao out cold with a single right hand. All critics were silenced, all questions were answered.
Rightfully, the ball is on “El Dinamita’s court, as far as the Pacquiao vs. Marquez situation is concerned. So when a fifth fight with the one and only eight-division world champion was brought up, here’s what the Mexican boxer had to say.
"Yes, I believe they are interested [in a fifth Pacquiao fight], but I no longer am and that's a fact," the 42-year old Marquez said in an interview with ESPN Deportes.
Marquez last fought in May and won against former WBO junior welterweight champion Mike Alvarado. In June, he expressed his intent to fight on, despite his age and some knee problems.
