In any prizefighting event, there is always that puncher’s chance.

This is what undefeated 140-pounder Viktor Postol proved on Saturday night (Sunday, PHT) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, when he scored an upset over hard-punching Lucas Matthysse, wherein he also bagged the vacant WBC light welterweight belt.

Postol held a four-inch reach advantage over Matthysse, and he took advantage of it throughout the contest. Matthysse did find his groove duringt he middle rounds, but the Ukranian fighter immediately went to use his movement to counter.

As the tenth round approached, Postol was already in control of the bout, that his coach Freddie Roach even took notice.

With only 15 seconds left in the round, Postol cracked a thudding right hook that landed squarely on Matthysse’s jaw. The Argentinian boxer was not able to answer referee Jack Reiss’ count, eventually leading to the fight’s stoppage.
