FAIRFAX, Virginia (AP) — Boxer Prichard Colon was in a critical condition Sunday after suffering a brain bleed from an injury during a bout in northern Virginia, an official said.
Colon, who was a rising star from Puerto Rico in the super welterweight division, underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain after his bout Saturday against Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia, Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, said.
Within moments of becoming dizzy and nauseous in his dressing room after the fight, Colon was under the care of emergency medical technicians and rushed to Inova Fairfax hospital, DiBella said.
"His condition remains critical," DiBella said in a statement.
Colon was undefeated in 16 fights and was favored against Williams in a semi-main event that was televised by NBC.
