World middleweight boxing champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez did not mince his words when asked about fellow 160-pound title-holder Gennady Golovkin.
Alvarez emerged victorious over four-division world champion Miguel Cotto on Saturday night, through a unanimous decision verdict. All three judges had the Mexican winning by wide margins, with a final tally of 117-111, 119-109, and 118-110.
With the victory, the proposed match-up between Alvarez and the undefeated Golovkin is beginning to make noise once again. Which was why HBO analyst Max Kellerman immediately jumped on the chance to ask “Canelo” about his thoughts on the said bout, during the post-fight interview.
In return, Alvarez did give a courteous but straightforward response.
“My respect to him, but I would put the gloves back on and fight him right now,” Alvarez said, speaking through a translator.
Golovkin last saw action in October, where he defeated Canadian David Lemieux via eighth round TKO.
