Nonito Donaire’s opponent for his comeback fight in the Philippines has been confirmed.
“The Filipino Flash” (36-3, with 23 victories by knockout) was originally slated to face former IBF featherweight world champion and training partner Evgeny Gradovich, but negotiations have been unsuccessful.
In a report by Ronnie Nathanielsz for Boxingscene, Donaire will instead be facing Hungarian boxer Zsolt Bedak (25-1, with eight victories by knockout). Bedak competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, where he defeated current three-division world champion Abner Mares.
He is currently on a ten-fight winning streak, with three of those victories ending by stoppage.
Donaire’s own manager, Cameron Dunkin, confirmed the news.
“I talked to the guy, and we’ll get the contracts out, but they have agreed to take the fight. We are gonna go forward.”
The report adds that Donaire is currently in the country with his family and had already began training camp for the April 23rd bout at the Araneta Coliseum.
