Over the past few weeks, both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have repeatedly shut down the idea that a rematch is still possible from happening.
But apparently, not many are convinced that these statements will hold true.
Most recently, HBO Boxing’s Harold Lederman spoke about the idea of the possible repeat of the May 2nd mega bout. And for the 76-year old former boxing judge, the Filipino boxing icon will have a better night, this time around.
“When it comes to the rematch, Manny’s going to come in there ready to fight. It’s going to be a different Manny Pacquiao,” Lederman told Boxingscene.com. “He will attack him, he’s going to whack him, he’s going to turn, then he’s going to go the other way, do stuff that Floyd Mayweather’s never seen in his whole life.”
Mayweather dominated Pacquiao through the 12-rounds of action, which then ended in a unanimous decision verdict in his favor. “Pacman” then attributed his subpar performance that night to a right shoulder injury that turned out to be a torn rotator cuff.
Lederman turned out to be one of the few people who believe that Pacquiao was indeed injured on fight night, noting that it would have been an entirely different story of it was treated.
“It’s a tough style to fight,” Lederman said, speaking about Pacquiao’s style of using angles and movement. “And he didn’t do it the first fight because of the fact that his thoughts were on the pain in his shoulder.”
“If a guy is asking for a shot of Novocain, you know he’s hurt,” he added. “And he was hurting. It’s going to be a different fight.”
