Renowned trainer Freddie Roach and eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao have been working together since the early 2000’s.
Being together for decades now, both men have gone through a lot, through the last decade of fights, press obligations, and training camps. Now that “Pacman” is down to his 66th and final professional fight against Timothy Bradley, Roach took a stroll down memory lane to look back at his funniest memory about his most-prized ward.
Speaking to Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV, Roach remembered a time in one of the training camps when Pacquiao slapped long-time friend Buboy Fernandez in the face.
According to Roach, it was during a rare time when Pacquiao had trouble making weight. At one random meal time moment, Fernandez forgot to bring out some hot milk.
“You have to drink everything room temperature or hotter or it'll mess your system up -- in Manny's mind,” Roach recalled. “Buboy forgot the hot milk.”
It was then when Pacquiao, in a very uncharacteristic manner, slapped Buboy in the face.
“The first and last time I ever saw Manny mad in my life,” Roach said. “I've never seen him like that. That's a good thing for 15 years, I guess.”
“He's a good guy,” he continued. “I didn't think that was really in him, but he was pissed off at Buboy that day. Don't forget the milk."
