As previously reported, WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes was slated to face mandatory challenger Moises Fuentes on May 21st at the Cebu Sports Complex.
However, these plans may change, as “Ahas” is now likely fighting veteran southpaw Raul Garcia on the same date and venue. According to a report by Ronnie Nathanielsz for Boxingscene, ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer proposed for the said match-up to take place, subsequently postponing Nietes’ mandatory title defense against Fuentes.
The report adds that Aldeguer is setting up the Nietes-Fuentes fight to be held in September in the United States once again, at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. It is the same venue where ALA Promotions held their first US event last October 17th.
Garcia, who holds a record of 36-3-1, with 22 wins by knockout, last saw action in December 2014, where he won by unanimous decision against Andres Garcia.
Raul is also the twin brother of Ramon Hirales, whom Nietes defeated in 2011 to win his WBO 108-pound title.
