WBO world super bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. took a quick break from his training to attend the NBA Filipino Heritage Night game between the defending champions, the Golden State Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California on Friday (Saturday morning in Manila).
The 33-year old Donaire, who will defend his belt against Hungarian challenger Zsolt Bedak (25 wins, 1 loss, 8 knockouts) on April 23 in Cebu City, wore a personalized Warriors jersey with the number 16 and his name at the back while sittiing at courtside. The Warriors went on to win over the Mavericks, 128 - 120, to remain unbeaten at home this season.
The four-division champion (36 wins, 3 losses, 23 knockouts), who sat near courtside, has mentioned previously that he is a fan of the Warriors, having grown up in Northern California after moving from General Santos City in South Cotabato.
"From time to time I do watch football, baseball, basketball. And when I'm a fan, I'm a [San Francisco] Giants Fan, a [Golden State] Warriors fan. I'm a Bay Area fan," Donaire said previously in an interview with HBO.
Donaire is coming off three straight victories, the last of which was an electrifying 12-round unanimous decision over Mexican Cesar Juarez in Puerto Rico last December to win the vacant WBO world super bantamweight title.
