Four Pinoy boxers move even a step closer to qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics after reaching the semifinal round of the 2016 Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament in Qian’an, China.
Men’s light flyweight bet Rogen Ladon scored his second straight win of the tournament after defeating Iraq’s Hassan Ali via Unanimous Decision after three rounds. Up next for Ladon is a semis bout against India’s Devendro Singh.
In the men’s bantamweight division, Mario Fernandez also took care of business against Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Wadi, scoring a three-round Unanimous Decision win. The next challenge for Fernandez is Thailand’s Chatchai Butdee.
In the men’s lightweight bracket, Charly Suarez sent India’s Dheeraj Rangi packing, scoring a three-round Unanimous Decision victory. He sets up a semifinals matchup againt China’s Shan Jun.
Finally, Eumir Marcial also books himself a semifinals seat after defeating Iran’s Sajjad Kazemzadeh, also via a three-round Unanimous Decision win. Shakhram Giyasov of Uzbekistan is next on the list for the SEA Games Silver Medalist.
