Filipino bets Eumir Marcial and Mario Fernandez may have come up short in their semifinal bouts at the Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification tournament, but the two will have another shot at booking a trip to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Marcial and Fernandez both get box-offs to determine who finishes the tournament as the third-best boxer in their respective weight divisions.
Men’s welterweight bet Marcial, who lost to Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov in the semifinals, will meet Mongolia’s Byambyn Tüvshinbat, who fell short against Thailand’s Sailom Adi in the semis.
In the men’s bantamweight box-off, Fernandez, who fell to Thai Chatchai Butdee in the semifinals, takes on Kazakhstan’s Kairat Yeraliyev, who lost to India’s Shiva Thapa.
“Kailangan kundisyon na kundisyon, dahil ito na po yung huling araw namin dito para talagang manalo,” Fernandez told ABS-CBN News’ Dyan Castillejo. For both Pinoy bets, this could very well be a do-or-die match if they wish to carry the country’s colors in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
“Kayang kaya naman, kailanang-kailangan lang talaga manalo ngayon. “ said Fernandez.
