A bit of unfortunate news out of Qian'an, China, as Filipino boxing bets Eumir Marcial and Mario Fernandez were unable to qualify for the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics after falling short in their respective box-offs during the Asia and Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification tournament.
Welterweight Marcial, who powered through an injury, dropped a close three round unanimous
decision loss to Mongolia's Byambyn Tüvshinbat.
Fernandez on ther hand, couldn't pull out a win, as he lost to Kairat Yeraliyev of Kazakhstan, also via unanimous decision in the men's bantamweight box-off.
As it stands, only Rogen Ladon and Charly Suarez will be heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with the hopes of bringing home Olympic gold in boxing.
Ladon and Suarez booked their tickets to the Summer Games via reaching the finals of their respective weight divisions.
Ladon came up short in the men's light flyweight final, bowing to Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan via majority decision.
Suarez on the other hand, will be meeting Mongolia's Dorjnyambuugiin Otgondalai in the men's lightweight final.
