"The Filipino Flash" Nonito Donaire is training through the hot Philippine weather in preparation for his April 23 title bout in Cebu
Reigning WBO Super Bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire wasted no time as he jumped right back in sparring after arriving in Manila last Monday.
The multi-time world champion is back in the country for his upcoming title defense against Hungarian Zsolt Bedak in Cebu City on April 23rd.
The 33-year old Donaire tested himself against 26-year old super featherweight Vergil "Strong Man" Puton, a 22-bout veteran out of GenSan.
In what was scheduled to be a ten-round sparring session, Donaire went hard for five rounds, but couldn't continue after that.
No, Donaire wasn't out of shape, nor did Puton get the better of the champ, instead, it was the searing Manila heat that stopped Donaire.
"Ready na ako. I'm here to test myself, but heat beat me today. I just arrived from the States, para akong nasa Sauna."
To get used to the weather in the Philippines, the Donaire camp may start training at night.
With two more weeks of sparring left, Donaire says he's ready for his Hungarian challenger.
Father-slash-coach Nonito Sr. says that they've been working on body shots, since they know that Bedak comes in low.
Team Donaire will continue to train in Manila before they fly to Cebu on the 16th, a week before fight night.
