"Malaking laban 'to." - Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo
“Malaking laban ‘to.” Magsayo told ABS-CBN Sports, before saying anything else.
The 20-year old pugilistic prodigy out of the ALA boxing stable is set to face arguably the toughest challenge of his young boxing career, Saturday evening.
In the undercard of the highly-anticipated Nonito Donaire-Zsolt Bedak title bout, Magsayo, unbeaten in his thirteen fight career, takes on former world title contender and multi-time champion Chris “The Hitman” Avalos.
Having last fought late in February, “Magnifico” doesn’t seem to be bothered with the quick turnaround, especially since he says this is a dream-come-true situation for him.
And while the young Magsayo understands the magnitude of this fight, with more eyes than usual on him on fight night, he believes that Avalos is a boxer not out of the ordinary.
Lagi akong naka-focus.”
While experience may be on Avalos’ side, Magsayo believes that he’s the overall better fighter, but still can’t take things too lightly.
During the presser and the official weigh-ins, things got chippy between the Magsayo and Avalos, but the Pinoy maintains that he’s unfazed by all the external factors.
“Ahh, wala ‘yan. Psy-war lang yan sa kanya. Sanay na ako sa mga ganyan. Sa US din ganun. Laging ganyan.”
As far as fight night predictions go, Magsayo simply said that if the knockout presents itself, he’s taking it.
