"He's not the person na makaka-harang sa mga plano at ambisyon ko." - Donnie Nietes on Raul Garcia
In the days leading up to Pinoy Pride 36, Mexican challenger Raul “Rayito” Garcia has been very confident of his capablities to end the reign of WBO Light Flyweight Champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes.
Garcia has called Nietes a runner and has questioned the Pinoy champ’s fighting style, while saying that he’s different from the previous 14 other Mexican warriors who have tried to put Nietes down.
The longest reigning Filipino boxing champion however, didn’t share the same sentiments. When asked if it ever crossed his mind that Garcia would be the first Mexican to hand him a loss, the Nietes had this to say:
“ Sa tingin ko, he’s not the person na makaka-harang sa mga plano at ambisyon ko.”
In response to Garcia’s “runner” comments, the champ said that he’d happily fight Garcia face to face.
“Lalabanan ko siya ng walang takbuhan. Kung yun ang gusto niya, pagbibigyan ko siya sa kanyang kahilingan.”
Saturday evening, the time for talking is over, as Nietes and Garcia square off in the ring for the WBO Light Flyweight Championship.
On May 28th, longest reigning Filipino boxing world champion comes home. Donnie “Ahas Nietes” defends his WBO Light Flyweight Championship against Raul “ Rayito” Garcia of Mexico on Pinoy Pride 36: A Legend in the Making.
