You see, he’s not just another hard-hitting Mexican opponent for me. He’s the Mexican fighter who gave Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire a hard time on the ring, and that’s not something I should just disregard." Albert Pagara on Cesar Juarez
With less than a month left before unbeaten “Prince” Albert Pagara steps into the ring against arguably the biggest challenge of his career, the ALA Boxing standout has turned his training up.
Putting work in at the famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles in preparation for his WBO International Jr. Bantamweight title bout against Mexico’s Cesar Juarez, the 22-year old Maasin, Southern Leyte Native has already put in almost a hundred rounds of sparring time, according to head trainer Edmund Villamor.
“We have our conditioning sessions in the morning with Nick Curson and in the afternoons, shadow boxing, bagging, then working on the mitts, and abdominal exercise for a total of 12 rounds. Albert has already sparred close to a hundred rounds with other fighters at the Wild Card Gym too.” Villamor said, via Philboxing.com
For his part, Pagara knows that Juarez won’t be a walk in the park, and has himself said that the former world title contender isn’t just another Mexican warrior.
“I am aware how big this fight is and how the result will determine my Boxing career, but I am confident because of how my training has been. You see, he’s not just another hard-hitting Mexican opponent for me.”
Pagara also brought up the fact that Juarez gave Pinoy world champion Nonito Donaire Jr. one hell of a fight just last December.
“He’s the Mexican fighter who gave Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire a hard time on the ring, and that’s not something I should just disregard.”
Pagara and Juarez are set to throw down at Pinoy Pride 37: Fist of the Future on July 9th, at the San Mateo Events Center in California.
