A couple of Filipino boxers will be aiming for a spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as men’s flyweight bet Ian Clark Bautista and welterweight bet Eumir Felix Marcial represent the Philippines at the AIBA World Olympic Qualification tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Ranked at #1, Marcial will only need three wins to qualify. He begins his campaign in the second round of the Preliminaries on Saturday, June 18th against Germany’s Abass Barou, who scored a knockout win over New Zealand’s Joshua Nyika.
Bautista on the other hand, will need four wins to book a trip to Rio. He begins his road in the first round of the Preliminaries against Spain’s Jose De La Nieve Linares on Friday, June 17.
The two Pinoy SEA Games Gold Medalists are hoping to join light flyweight Rogen Ladon and lightweight Charly Suarez, who have already clinched spots in the Rio Olympics.
