Pinoy flyweight pug Ian Clark Bautista's road to Rio came to a heartbreaking end, Friday afternoon, after falling to Spain's Kelvin de la Nieve Linares at the AIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Linares defeated Bautista via a three-round Unanimous Decision, 29-28 across all the judges' scorecards.
According to a tweet sent out by ABAP Executive Director Ed Picson, the judges scored the third round for Bautista, but they believe that the last two rounds should have gone the way of the Pinoy flyweight.
Ian Clark Bautista loses to Linares, 29-28. We thought Ian won rds 2&3 but judges only gave him rd.3. Gallant stand by Ian.— Ed Picson (@Edcaster) June 17, 2016
While Bautista's campaign has already ended, welterweight Eumir Felix Marcial is just about to begin his journey.
The top seeded boxer will meet Germany's Abbas Barou in the preliminaries, Saturday afternoon. Marcial will only need three wins to join fellow Pinoy pugs Rogen Ladon and Charly Suarez on the trip to Rio.
