Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo may not be due back in inside the ring until late September, but it looks like the kid isn’t taking any time off.
In fact, the unbeaten ALA Boxing standout is also in the United States and has gotten some work in, alongside teammates Albert and Jason Pagara, who are both preparing for their Pinoy Pride 37 bouts in just a couple of weeks.
The ALA Boxing boys set up camp in Los Angeles and trained at the famed Wild Card Gym, once home to another Pinoy boxing great by the name of Manny Pacquiao, and run by a legendary coach in Freddie Roach.
Touted as one of the faces of the the future of Pinoy boxing, Magsayo got a chance to hit the mitts with Roach himself, certainly an amazing opportunity for the 20-year old fighting phenom out of Tacloban Leyte.
“Karangalan natin yun, para sa akin,” Magsayo said. “Pina-punch mitt niya ako, tinuruan niya ako.”
Roach also spoke highly Magsayo and the ALA stars, saying that they have everything that they need to be successful.
“They're very good fighters on their own merit. They work hard, they have good styles, they have good coaches, they have good managers. They have everything they need to be successful.”
Hgh praise from someone who knows a thing or two about boxing.
Magsayo is coming off a huge comeback win over Chris Avalos in Cebu, and is getting ready for Pinoy Pride 38 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California this coming September 24.
