THE KING RETURNS. "King" Arthur Villanueva joins the Pinoy Pride 38 card in Carson, California
It looks like a third ALA boxer will be added to the highly-anticipated Pinoy Pride 38 fight card at the StubHub Center in Carson, California this September.
Joining headliner Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo is reigning WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion “King” Arthur Villanueva, who’ll reportedly face Juan Jimenez in a rematch of their Pinoy Pride 36 meeting last May.
Villanueva and Jimenez battled for four rounds in Bacolod until an errant collision of heads resulted in a controversial knockout call in favor of the Pinoy fighter when the referee counted Jimenez out, not seeing that the knockout was a result of the headbutt.
Following the bout, ALA President and CEO Michael Aldeguer said that the fair thing to do was give Jimenez an immediate rematch, and it looks like it’s going to take place on ALA Boxing Promotions’ biggest card this year.
Pinoy Pride 38 will feature Nietes possibly moving up in weight to challenge reigning WBO and WBA World Flyweight king Juan Francisco Estrada.
Magsayo on the other hand, has been in the United States for a couple of months now, having trained with Albert and Jason Pagara. No opponent has been named for the unbeaten fighter.
With less than three months to go before fight night, expect an announcement regarding the final opponents of Nietes and Magsayo soon.
