With the potential opponents narrowed down to three names, Manny Pacquiao’s return is becoming more and more imminent, and now, Top Rank CEO has announced that there’s already a date and venue for Pacman’s “unretirement.”
According to a report from ABS-CBN’s Steve Angeles, Arum said that Manny Pacquiao will be making his in-ring return on November 5, and and an oppoonent will be name after July 23’s title unification bout between WBO and WBC junior welterweight champions Terrence Crawford and Viktor Postol. Another name that has been thrown in the mix as well is WBO welterweight title holder Jessie Vargas.
Arum made one thing clear though, that Manny will be fighting for a world title.
“People want Manny to be challenged and when he comes back to fight for a title I think whether it's the junior welterweight title against the winner of Crawford or Postol or if it's for the welterweight title against a guy like Jesse Vargas, he's gonna fight for a title.” Arum said.
As for the venue, Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Gilbert Manzano reported that the Thomas and Mack Center on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus has been booked, according to Arum.
According to Manzano, Arum was able to talk to UNLV’s Athletic Director Tina Kunzer-Murphy and was given permission to use the facility.
“Over the weekend we talked to her and she told us, ‘OK,’ and was able to do it, It’s great for the university because it’s good publicity and good income from the boxing match.”
Pacquiao is unbeaten at the Thomas and Mack Center, defeating Mexican rival Erik “El Terrible” Morales at the venue, twice.
Everything seems to be falling into place for the eight-division world champion’s return to boxing.
Once an opponent is named, all that’s left will be an official announcement from Pacquiao himself.
