Around 24 hours removed from his championship win over Pungluang Sor Singyu in Thailand, newly crowned WBO world bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales has arrived back in Manila.
The 24-year old Tapales, a native of Lanao del Norte, landed in Manila Thursday afternoon and met in the media before flying to Cebu to host a dinner for the Cebu media at the RWS Gym in Cebu City, according to Philboxing.com's Dong Secuya.
Tapales survived two knockdowns in the fifth round against Singyu, before rallying in and stopping the Thai champion in the eleventh round to claim the WBO title and become the sixth current Pinoy world boxing champion, alongside Nonito Donaire Jr, Donnie Nietes, and Johnriel Casimero, Gretchen Abaniel, and Marnelle Verano.
