So who’s it gonna be, Manny?
After weeks and weeks of speculation, Manny Pacquiao’s return fight is slowly taking shape, and it looks like it’s going to be Jessie Vargas standing on the opposite end of the ring.
“We know we have a high possibility of a fight between him and I, and it’s being confirmed soon,” said Vargas, via Glibert Manzano of the Las Vegas Review Journal. “We’re looking forward to it, reviewing the contract and signing it.”
Reports have surfaced that Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz has already confirmed the Pacquiao-Vargas fight, but the reports were shot down by Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum.
“Until Manny makes his decision, everything is just speculation, I’ve talked with Jessie, I know what it will require Jessie to fight, but everything is up to Manny, and I haven’t talked to Manny and I won’t until I get to the Philippines.”
Arum will be flying to the Philippines next week, presumably to meet with the eight-division world champion and finalize the details of his comeback fight.
If things fall into place and the Pacquiao-Vargas fight is finalized, it will be for Vargas’ WBO welterweight title.
The 27-year old Vargas (27-1, 10 KO), is coming off a title win against Sadam Ali back in March. His lone career loss comes against a man that Pacquiao knows very well, Timothy Bradley.
