Just over a month after capturing the WBO World Bantamweight Championship, Filipino boxer Marlon "The Nightmare" Tapales already has a title defense scheduled.
Rex "Wakee" Salud's international matchmaker Willy Flores confirmed via ABS-CBN's Dyan Castillejo that Tapales will be putting his title on the line against undefeated Japanese challenger Takuma Inoue, and the title defense will take place in Inoue's backyard.
The 20-year old Inoue, younger brother of reigning WBO Super Flyweight king Naoya Inoue, has slowly been making a name for himself in the bantamweight division.
In eight professional fights, Inoue has yet to taste defeat, and most recently dispatched Pinoy slugger Froilan Saludar via unanimous decision.
Despite only being four years older, Tapales is significantly more experienced, boasting a 29-2 professional record with 12 wins coming via knockout.
Still, Inoue shouldn't be taken lightly.
The Tapales-Inoue title bout is scheduled for December 30.
