Nietes' path to flyweight dominance begins at Pinoy Pride 38
"Nag-decide na ako na aakyat ako sa flyweight kasi maraming magagaling dito sa flyweight, maraming mga world champions na may big name, so yan ang pinapangarap ko." - Donnie Nietes

After reaching the top of the mountain in the minimumweight division and making history in the light flyweight division as the longest reigning Filipino boxing world champion, Donnie "Ahas" Nietes begins an new chapter in his career as he makes his flyweight debut against former world champion Edgar Sosa in the main event of Pinoy Pride 38: Philippines vs. Mexico on Saturday, September 24th. (Sunday morning, the 25th, Manila time).

During his near-six year reign as the WBO light flyweight champion, Nietes took down challenger after challenger, and eventually felt the urge to look for bigger challenges, which meant eventually moving up in weight.

"Nag-decide na ako na aakyat ako sa flyweight kasi maraming magagaling dito sa flyweight, maraming mga world champions na may big name, so yan ang pinapangarap ko." Nietes told ABS-CBN Sports.

Possible big-name fights like Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzales could be on the horizon for Nietes, but before thinking about chasing a third world title, Nietes must first focus on former world champion Sosa, and Nietes knows that he's not going in there against just any boxer.

Sosa has said that he's ready for Nietes, and would surely like to give the man from Murcia a rude welcome in the flyweight division.

Also on the card, rising star and WBO International Featherweight champion Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo tries to keep his streak intact when he defends his title against Ramiro Robles.

In a featured bout, "King" Arthur Villanueva will try to erase any doubt when he takes on Juan Jimenez in a rematch for the WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight crown.
