Milan Melindo gets another crack at world championship gold.
Less than a week removed from ALA Boxing's stellar outing at Pinoy Pride 38 in California, it was already announced that the next installment of the Pinoy Pride series already has a main event in place.
According to PhilBoxing.com's Dong Secuya, ALA Promotions CEO Michael Aldeguer confirmed that veteran Milan "El Metodico" Melindo will be headlining Pinoy Pride 39 against Thailand's Teerapong "Fahlan Sakeerin Jr." Uthaida at the Cebu Coliseum on November 26th.
To make things more exciting for Melindo and the Pinoy fans, it's going to be for the IBF interim light flyweight championship.
The interim title bout between number three-ranked Uthaida and number six-ranked Melindo was ordered by the IBF after titleholder Akira Yaegashi was sidelined due to injury, rendering him unable to defend his belt against Melindo.
This will be Melindo's third crack at a world title, after failing to capture gold against Juan Francisco Estrada back in 2013 and Javier Mendoza just last year. The 28-year old Cagayan de Oro native has won two straight, most recently defeating Mexico's Maximino Flores via Technical Decision in Bacolod back in May.
Also looking to redeem himself in a world title match, Uthaida challenged Katsunari Takayama for the IBF minimumweight crown back in 2015 but came up short. Since then, the 23-year old Thai slugger has won four straight, most recently scoring a TKO win over Stevanus Nana Bau in the fourth round.
Pinoy Pride 39 could also see the return of the Pagara brothers Albert and Jason, as well younger ALA Boxings stars such as Kevin Jake Cataraja and Jeo Santisima.
