Arthur Villanueva closes in on another world title shot.
Fresh off his stunning knockout win over Juan Jimenez at Pinoy Pride 38 in Carson, California, ALA Boxing standout "King" Arthur Villanueva appears to be taking one step closer to another chance at a world title.
According to PhilBoxing.com, the World Boxing Organization or WBO has ordered a WBO bantamweight title-eliminator bout between Villanueva and former IBF junior bantamweight champion Zolani Tete of South Africa.
The 27-year old Villanueva is 30-1-0 in his professional career with 16 knockouts. His lone loss came against former IBF world super flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo in Villanueva's first attempt at a world title back in 2015.
The 28-year old Tete on the other hand, is 24-3-0 in his career, with 20 knockouts to his name. The Eastern Cape native has won his last eight bouts, and is looking for another world championship run.
The winner of the Villanueva-Tete bout is expected to meet the winner of the Marlon Tapales-Takouma Inoue title bout this December.
Should Villanueva and Tapales both come out victorious in their upcoming matches,we could see an all-Pinoy match for the bantamweight title real soon.
No date has been set for the Villanueva-Tete tiff, but negotiations are ongoing between ALA Promotions and Queensberry Promotions.
