November 5th was a day that Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire had been waiting for for a long time.
It was the first time ever that Donaire fought on the same card as eight-division boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
When the night was over, Pacquiao had made a triumphant return, reclaiming the WBO welterweight championship after beating Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision.
Donaire however, wasn't as fortunate.
The four-division champ dropped the WBO super bantamweight belt to still-unbeaten Jessie Magdaleno after the latter outworked and outpointed the former in twelve rounds of action.
"The Filipino Flash" went on Instagram after the match to send out a heartfelt message of thanks to those who supported him on fight night.
"Thank you for giving all your love and energy but apparently the judges saw it differently," Donaire's post read. "It was yesterday and I'm going to celebrate life with the thousands who chanted for me."
Donaire went on to be thankful that he was kept safe during the match, and ended with a little invitation to the new champion.
"And to Jessie Magdaleno, let's dance again."
"Enjoy it, It'll be a fun rematch. But thank you for your honesty outside the ring." Donaire added.
Thank you for giving all your love and energy but apparently the judges saw it differently. It doesn't matter. It was yesterday and I'm going to celebrate life with the thousands who chanted for me. Tomorrow brings another day and we learn. Thank you God for keeping me safe. And to @peligroso_jmag91 let's dance again. Enjoy it, it'll be a fun rematch. But thank you for ur honesty outside the ring.
Donaire won the WBO super bantamweight belt back in December of 2015 after outlasting Cesar Juarez in a 12-round fight of the year quality war. He went on to defend his title once against Hungarian Olympian Zsolt Bedak in Cebu. Donaire finds himself back in the hunt for world championship gold once again.
