"Ang nakikita kong advantage ko is yung sinasabi niyang advantage niya over sa akin, yun height and yung reach niya, yun ang weakness niya."
When asked about what he this his advantage is over Milan Melindo, Thailand's Fahlan Sakkreerin Junior said that his reach and his height will play an important factor in their world title match at Pinoy Pride 39 this Saturday.
The smaller Melindo however, believes otherwise.
In fact, Melindo believes that Sakkreerin's advantages are actually his weaknesses.
"Ang nakikita kong advantage ko is yung sinasabi niyang advantage niya over sa akin, yun height and yung reach niya, yun ang weakness niya." Melindo told ABS-CBN Sports.
The 28-year old ALA Boxing standout plans to close the distance and use his Thai opponent's longer reach to his advantage.
"Para sa akin as a counterpuncher, mabilis ako, and yung reach niya, magagamit ko paglapit sa kanya." Melindo said, confidently, "Pag-sumuntok siya ng jab, doon ako makakapasok, kasi mahaba yung kamay niya, mahirap ibalik agad yun."
He added that Sakkreerin's height will also work to his advantage, as he says taller fighters are more susceptible to body shots.
"Yung tangkad niya, doon ako makaka-pasok ng body punches, kasi pag matas yun kalaban, open yung body para sa punches."
Melindo was able to use this kind of attack to a degree of success against his previous opponent, Mexico's Max Flores, who was also taller and longer.
Will this approach be enough to nab Melindo a world title? We'll find out, Saturday night.
