Didn't even break a sweat.
Among all the fighters on Saturday’s Pinoy Pride 39 card in Cebu, it was ALA Boxing rising star Kevin Jake “KJ” Cataraja who had the shortest night.
41 seconds to be exact.
The unbeaten prospect dispatched fellow Cebuano John Kenan Villaflor in just 41 seconds, in the most brutal fashion imaginable, with a faceplant knockout.
“Nung sa weigh-ins pa lang, inisip ko na ‘to, na ipapakita ko kung gaano tayo ka-bangis,” Cataraja told ABS-CBN Sports with a big smile. “Ang yabang kasi niya, ang yabang talaga. Grabe.”
Villaflor tried to get things hyped during the weigh-ins by getting in Cataraja’s face in the staredowns, and “KJ” responded in the ring. The usually-calm and collected 21-year old came out after the opening bell like a bat out of hell, and pushed the action until he landed the killshot: a perfectly placed hook on Villaflor’s jaw.
“Masayang-masaya, yun yung target ko dun eh,” Cataraja said, talking about the knockout blow. “Kung makukuha ko siya sa early rounds, kailangan ibuhos ko lahat dun.”
“Para mawala yung yabang niya.” Cataraja added.
For KJ, who improved to an unbeaten record of five wins with four knockouts, the stunning win was also a way to introduce himself to the fans.
“Sabi ni coach, ito yung time na ipakita ko sa mga fans, and sa mga Cebuano na deserving ako na lumaban sa mga malalaking card.”
And so he did, and in spectacular fashion.
If people didn’t know who KJ Cataraja was before, they better get to know him now.
