Milan Melindo was named GAB's Boxer of the Month for November
The Philippine Games and Amusement Board or GAB named newly-crowned interim IBF world light flyweight champion Milan "El Metodico" Melindo as their Boxer of the Month for the month of November.
Melindo ended November strong with a strong performance against world-ranked Thai slugger Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr last November 26 to capture his first ever world title, and in the process places himself in the front of the line for the IBF world light flyweight championship, currently held by Japan's Akira Yaegashi.
A unification bout for the undisputed IBF title could go down between Melindo and Yaegashi in 2017.
The 27-year old Melindo, a longtime ALA Boxing Promotions standout, has won his last three outings and has steadily shown improvement since his recent loss to Javier Mendoza.
The Cagayan de Oro native was originally scheduled to challenge Yaegashi for the title earlier this year, but an injury put the champion on the shelf and ultimately set up the interim contest.
