Alas, another chapter has been added to the ongoing "Who's Manny Pacquiao gonna fight next" drama, and this time, it involves former sparring partner Amir Khan.
Publications in the United Kingdom began reporting early Tuesday morning that reigning WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao isn't going to fight former Australian Olympian Jeff Horn anymore, and instead it's going to be Khan standing opposite Pacquiao.
According to TheSun.co.uk, Pacquiao and Khan will be fighting on the 20th of May, and it'll take place either in Manchester, or in Khan's birth town of Bolton, England.
Khan, who's coming off a loss to Canelo Alvarez back in May of 2016, is an intriguing, albiet questionable choice of opponent for Pacquiao, given that Senator Manny is the champion.
True enough, Pacquiao's promoter and Top Rank Boxing CEO Bob Arum came out saying that the Pacquiao-Khan reports are, in his words, bullsh*t.
"“The Amir Khan story has come out of nowhere,’’ Arum told Australian website The Courier Mail. " It is total and complete bullsh*t’’
Arum added that the fight between Pacquiao and Horn at the Suncorp Stadium in Australia is still "up in the air", and that the Philippine senator is still looking at a bigger purse in the Middle East.
So, let's recap: Pacquiao vs. Horn announced, Pacquiao confuses everyone with fight location, Pacquiao polls fans for next opponent with Khan getting the most number of votes, Pacquiao vs. Khan rumours surface, Arum shoots down Pacquiao vs. Khan rumours.
Once we finally get an official announcement from Pacquiao and Arum himself, it looks like we'll be in for another whirlwind of speculation and guessing.
