In less than a week's time, unbeaten Australian Jeff "The Hornet" Horn will be stepping into the ring against no doubt the biggest name he's ever faced when he challenges eight-division world champion and reigning WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquaio for the title.
If those stakes weren't high enough, Horn will be doing it at home, at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, and the hometown kid is well aware of the magnitude of Sunday's "Battle of Brisbane" against a boxing legend such as Pacquiao.
"It's definitely massive for Australia, having this fight here in Brisbane, especially. Just having the fight would be a massive boost for Australia." Horn told the media, Monday.
After nearly getting passed over for a potentially bigger-money fight between Pacquiao and Amir Khan in the Middle East, the Australian government, the Australian tourism board, and the main organizers for the fight made sure that they did everything they could to secure the fight Down Under.
Thanks to their efforts, Horn gets the opportunity of a lifetime, and he gives credit where credit is due.
"Being able to land the fight here, that's credit to DUCO Events, they've done a massive job getting [the fight] here, and the government, Tourism Queensland, everyone's done their job to get the fight here."
And while having the fight in Australia is a huge deal in itself, "The Hornet" knows that being able to get his hand raised at the end of the fight will make an even bigger splash, especially in Australian boxing.
"If I can win it, it changes Australian boxing big time." said Horn.
Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn will battle for the WBO welterweight world championship on Sunday, July 2nd at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
