Filipino boxer Mercito 'No Mercy' Gesta scored his second straight victory since coming back from over a year on the shelf, knocking out Mexico's Martin Honorio in the eighth round, Saturday at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
Gesta, 29, scored a fourth-round knockdown after fighting off multiple clinch attempts from his Mexican opponent.
'No Mercy' continued to punish Honorio until finally getting an early eighth-round stoppage.
"I trained hard for this fight, and the outcome is good, and with the help of Freddie Roach, I succeed," Gesta said via Steve Angeles of ABS-CBN News.
Gesta has been under the tutelage of legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach for the second time in as many fights, and the San Diego-based Cebuano slugger is pleased with the results so far.
"I love Freddie being in my corner because he stays calm, and I can think more and I think we bond good. I'm really happy with this victory."
Unbeaten in his last six outings, the Pinoy lightweight finds himself back in title contention.
Gesta is currently signed with boxing legend Oscar Dela Joya's Golden Boy Promotions.
Earlier that night, another Pinoy scored an impressive knockout win, as Samar's Recky Dulay stopped Panamanian Jaime Arboleda.
Dulay, who trains under former world champion Rodel Mayol, improves to 10-2 in his career.
