Jonas Sultan defeated John Riel Casimero via Unanimous Decision to earn an IBF world title shot.
Jonas Sultan scored the biggest victory of his young career, outpointing former two-division world champion John Riel Casimero at Pinoy Pride 42, Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Resort in Cebu.
The 25-year old Sultan appeared to be a step ahead of the former IBF flyweight king, countering and evading Casimero's best offense.
'Quadro Alas' gained some steam midway through the fight, landing some good combinations, but none of them doing any significant damage.
Sultan continued to outpoint Casimero in the later rounds, pressuring the latter to go for broke in the final round.
Casimero went all out in Round 12, but couldn't get a finish.
After 12 rounds, Sultan did enough to earn the Unanimous Decision nod from all three judges, 117-111, 116-112, 115-113.
Zamboanga's Sultan earns his 14th career win, and more importantly sets up a historic all-Filipino world title match against reigning IBF Super-Flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas.
