The road to a world title continues for US-based Filipino boxer Aston Palicte, as he gets ready to take on a former world title contender and interim WBA world light flyweight champion Jose Alfredo Rodriguez of Mexico.
“100 percent na kami sa conditioning. Ready na. Kahit bukas, ready na po sa suntukan.” Palicte told ABS-CBN News’ Steve Angeles.
The 26-year old Bago City native recently wrapped up training in Los Angeles, and was joined by fellow Pinoy boxer Romero Duno, a recent signee of boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
“Syempre masaya. Yung isang champion na kasama ko rin is Romero Duno.” Palicte said. “Yan, pareho kami nagsasama, kumbaga sabay kami ipag-abot yung pangarap namin.”
Duno, 22, is a 15-1 up-and-comer out of General Santos City, and is a WBC Youth Intercontinental champion and former WBC Asian Boxing Council champion. He’s currently riding a six-fight winning streak, most recently decisioning Juan Pablo Sanchez via unanimous decision in Inglewood.
While currently not booked for any upcoming fights, Duno says he’s always ready when needed.
“Baka may biglaan yung Golden Boy Promotions, pwede nila ako ma-singit, kaya ensayo ako palagi. Ready palagi.” said Duno.
Palicte and Rodriguez face off for the NABF Super Flyweight championship at the Round Rock Sports Center in Round Rock, Texas on Friday, December 8th, (December 9th, Manila time.)
