Bago City-born boxer Aston 'Mighty' Palicte moves a step closer towards his goal of a world title shot after knocking out former interim WBA world light flyweight champion Jose Alfredo Rodriguez in Texas, Friday night. (Saturday morning, Manila time)
Palicte, who trained with fellow Pinoy boxer Romero Duno in Los Angeles, capped off an entertaining slugfest with a fifth-round TKO after landing a vicious counter uppercut followed by a right hook that sent Rodriguez crumbling to his knees moments later.

The stoppage came in at the 46 second mark of the fifth round.
The 26-year old Palicte retains his NABF Super Flyweight championship and improves to 24-2 with 20 wins coming via knockout.
