Eight-division boxing world champion and Philippine Senator Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao will be celebrating his 39th birthday in a few days, and his longtime coach and trainer Freddie Roach has already sent out his advanced greetings.
Not only that, he says he’s already gotten Manny a gift!
“Happy birthday and I have a new dart set for you Manny, come get it.”
It may be a while before Coach Freddie and Manny link up again, as the hall of fame mentor is busy back in California, working on another potential Pinoy world champion in Mercito Gesta, who’s set to take on Jorge Linares in January for the WBA, WBC Diamond, and Ring Magazine lightweight championships.
Manny on the other hand, is back home in the Philippines, working as a lawmaker and trying to make moves with regard to his next fight.
As you’ve probably read or heard by now, Manny is trying to get a fight with UFC superstar Conor McGregor done by 2018.
Whether or not it materializes remains to be seen. In fact, even Coach Freddie isn’t too sure about what’s going on.
“I don’t know if that’s for real, I read this morning he’s going to fight on Mexico City, the other day he’s going to fight in China the other days he’s going to fight McGregor and then I hear from Bob Arum that’s a lie,” Roach told ABS-CBN’s Steve Angeles.
Whoever it is though, Coach Freddie says that he’ll make sure that Manny’s in tip-top shape for the fight.
“Whoever they put in front of him I’ll get him ready for it.”
For now however, it's Gesta that Roach will need to focus on.
