ALA Boxing Promotions standout Jason 'El Nino' Pagara missed weight for his WBO Asia Pacific junior welterweight championship match against Japan's Hiroki Okada, set for Tuesday, December 19th in Tokyo, Japan.
Pagara (40-2-1, 25 KO) came in at two-pounds over the 140-pound limit, making him ineligible to win the vacant WBO title at stake.
Okada (16-0, 11 KO) on the other hand, came in at exactly 140-pounds, which means a win over Pagara will give him his first taste of regional boxing gold.
It has been a rough stretch for Pagara as of late, as his failure to make weight comes after a disappointing Split Draw against an unheralded James Onyango at Pinoy Pride 42 in Cebu back in September.
Once considered among the top contenders in the world at junior welterweight, the Cagayan de Oro-born boxer will need to reestablish himself among the top tier of the division, and a win over Okada would be a good start.
Pagara and Okada face off at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, December 20th.
