Melindo coach on New Year's Eve fight: We lost to a better fighter

ALA Boxing standout and Pinoy boxing star Milan 'El Metodico' Melindo had a chance to close out 2017 with a bang by unifying the IBF and WBA junior flyweight belts when he took on Ryoichi Taguchi in Japan.
And while Melindo put on a valiant effort, in the end, the Japanese champion dominated the scoreboards for the unanimous decision nod.
Throughout the fight, Taguchi used his length and his reach to punish Melindo, who wound up with a couple of cuts above his eyebrows.
While it didn't go their way, ALA Boxing head coach Edito Villamor remained gracious in defeat, praising Taguchi on Twitter and calling him the better fighter.
We lost a better fighter last night. It was a great fight. Thank you for all your support. Happy New Year looking forward for 2018.— Edito Villamor (@coachala) December 31, 2017
While it's back to the drawing board for Melindo and ALA, 2017 was still a banner year for the Cagayanon, who won and defended his first world title.
