Mercito 'No Mercy' Gesta won't be the only Pinoy throwing down at the LA Forum on January 27th.
While Gesta will challenging Jorge Linares for the WBA and Ring Magazine world lightweight championships, rising star 'Ruthless' Romero Duno will be on the undercard against Mexican Yardley Suarez.
"I'm going to be ready, handa sa laban." Duno told ABS-CBN's Steve Angeles.
The 22-year old Duno, 15-1 with 13 knockouts, is riding a six-fight winning streak, and will be fighting in the US for the third time in his career.
After signing a multi-year deal with Golden Boy Promotions, Duno hopes to continue winning and moving closer towards a shot at a world championship.
While the Cotabato-born Duno isn't underestimating his upcoming opponent, he knows that the competition will eventually get tougher, which will require continuous improvement on his part.
"Kailangan talaga galingan sa pag-ensayo, kasi hindi lang naman siya ang kalaban mo. Marami pang susunod, kaya kailangan ko pa mag-improve ng higher than this."
The name Yardley Suarez (22-9, 12 KO) may be familiar to hardcore Filipino boxing fans out there, as he fought and got knocked out by fast-rising ALA Boxing star Mark Magsayo at the StubHub Center in Carson, California back in 2015.
