PSC-Pacquiao Cup scouting for new boxers in Sorsogon

Aspiring pugilists from Luzon will be tested in the ring as the Luzon preliminary leg of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup drops in Sorsogon City.
Sorsogon Governor Robert Rodrigueza guaranteed full support on the province’s hosting of the event slated on January 27 and 28.
“We will continue to help the sports development in Sorsogon and I would like to thank the PSC for choosing us to be the host city in this grassroots sports programs,” said Rodriguez following the MOA signing yesterday.
The governor is also in high hopes that the boxing tourney will catapult another world boxing champ from the Bicol region like Sorsogon-native Michael Farenas.
“We are proud to produce a world champion in Michael Farenas. But its time na may kasunod na dahil napalaki ng potential ng aming mga atleta at kabaataan sa Sorsogon,” said Rodrigueza.
PSC Chairman William Ramirez, bared future activities to be done by the agency in the development of sports in Sorsogon.
“We will be having consultative meetings in the province to help them chart the course of their sports development and produce future athletes for the country. This is just the start for Sorsogon.”
"We are for sports development. We are so inclined towards having an active sports presence in the province." Said Rodrigueza.
PSC Executive Director Sannah Frivaldo also hail from Sorsogon and shared that her grandfather, former governor Juan Frivaldo built the Balogo Sports Complex during his term.
"We will see how we can help them upgrade the facility," she said.
Around 200 boxers from the Luzon region are expected to compete in the preliminaries that will take place inside Sorsogon National High School Gymnasium.
General Santos City first hosted the preliminary last December.
